Chemical properties

As it shows strong reducing properties , once exposed to the air , it will be oxidized into sodium bisulfite and sodium bisulfite . When in contact with water , it decomposes , releases SO2 , and releases a lot of heat . Therefore , it is prone to inflammation when it comes in contact with water , and it is unstable in an aqueous solution . As the hydrolysis occurs , nascent hydrogen is produced . Generally , it is more stable in alkaline media than neutral media .

When it gets wet , it will decompose and heat , so it is easy to cause inflammation . Heated over 75℃ , it decomposes strongly and spontaneously combusts at 250℃ . Due to instability , a certain amount of stabilizer is added to the final product .
