Basic Information

Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide is a quaternary ammonium salt. It is hygroscopic. Stable in acid solution. Other names: N, N, N-trimethyl 1-hexadecyl ammonium bromide; Cetyl trimethylammonium bromide; Positive soap, etc. CTAB is white or light yellow crystal to powder, with pungent smell, easily soluble in ethyl alcohol/isopropanol, chloroform, 10 phr of water, slightly soluble in acetone, almost insoluble in ether and benzene, produces a lot of foam when shaking, and has good coordination with anionic, non-ionic, amphoteric surfactants (molar compatibility with anionic surfactants is taboo). It is a cationic detergent widely used in wetting, sterilization, anti-static, decontamination, solubilization, etc. It can be used as an efficient antistatic agent for fibers. It is used as bactericidal and algal killing agent, slime stripping agent and cleaning agent in industrial and oilfield water treatment. Its anti microbial performance is equivalent to that of germicide, which can be used for microbial control and cleaning of circulating water system, and has good killing effect on heterotrophic bacteria, iron bacteria and sulfate reducing bacteria. In general, its use concentration is 50-100mg/L.
It is used as an oral antiseptic in toothpaste. It is used as bactericide, softener, emulsifier and antistatic agent in cosmetics. When used for shampoo and conditioner, it can be adsorbed on the hair surface to form a single molecule film, which makes the hair fluffy and soft and gives it natural luster. At the same time, it can also inhibit the static electricity generated by friction on the hair surface, making it easy to comb the hair. Because skin, hair and bacteria have negative charges, they can firmly adsorb on cationic active groups, thus achieving the effects of moisturizing, conditioning, sterilization and anti-static.
