Tricresyl phosphate is used as a plasticizer in nitrocellulose , acrylate varnishes and polyvinyl chloride . TCP is a flame retardant used in plastics and rubber . It is also used as a gasoline additive and a deleader for tetraethyl lead .
In addition , it is also used for waterproofing materials , anti-wear and extreme pressure additives in lubricants and hydraulic oils. In addition , it is also used as an extraction solvent , especially for nitrocellulose and polymers .
