Physical and chemical properties


EVA is a random copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. Due to the introduction of short branched chains formed by polar acetic acid groups in the ethylene chain, the original crystalline state is changed, making EVA more flexible and elastic than polyethylene.
The performance of EVA resin has a great relationship with the content of vinyl acetate and melt flow rate. When the MFR is constant, as the content of vinyl acetate increases, its elasticity, flexibility, compatibility and transparency are all improved, and the crystallinity decreases; as the content of vinyl acetate decreases, the performance is close to that of polyethylene. Increased rigidity, improved wear resistance and electrical insulation properties. If the vinyl acetate content is constant, when the MFR increases, the softening point decreases, the processability and surface gloss are improved, but the mechanical strength decreases; on the contrary, as the MFR decreases, the molecular weight increases, and the impact performance and stress cracking resistance Performance has been improved.
EVA is often blended with other polymers as a modifier because of its good flexibility, toughness, stress crack resistance and adhesive properties. The blend of polyethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) has excellent flexibility, processability, good air permeability and printability, so it is widely used.
The blends of polyethylene and EVA show different properties with the changes of many factors such as the blending amount of EVA, the content of VAc in EVA, the molecular weight of EVA, the preparation of the blend, and the processing and molding conditions.
The influence of VAc content in EVA is extremely significant. When the VAc content in EVA is low (6.6%), the amount of EVA added has basically no effect on the crystallinity; the effect of the amount of EVA added on the density is more obvious, that is, the density of the blend increases with the increase of the amount of EVA added, especially After the EVA content reaches 25%, the rise is faster. EVA with a large amount of VAc has a greater modification effect on PE, and both crystallinity and density change sharply. Increasing the VAc content in EVA also leads to a rapid increase in the elongation of PE/EVA blends. The modification effect produced by increasing the ratio of EVA in PE/EVA is generally similar to the effect of increasing the VAc content in EVA.
EVA can modify the impact performance and environmental stress cracking resistance of HDPE. This is due to the fact that the longer branched chains of EVA molecules cannot enter the tightly packed lattice, which strengthens the amorphous region between the lamellar crystals, so the toughness and environmental stress cracking resistance are improved. EVA is also commonly used to improve the compatibility of HDPE with other polymers. For example, after adding EVA to HDPE/LDPE or HDPE/PP blends, the impact toughness of HDPE is increased due to the improved compatibility between the two. . The incorporation of EVA in HDPE can become a flexible material for the manufacture of foam plastics.
