Properties
White powder. Odorless. Relative density is 5.606; melting point is 1975℃; sublimates at 1720℃. Stable at room temperature, insoluble in water and alcohol, soluble in acid and alkali ammonium salt solutions, and is an amphoteric oxide. It absorbs carbon dioxide and water in the air to form zinc carbonate, which is white and should be stored in a sealed container. It is not reduced by hydrogen, and turns lemon yellow when heated and turns white after cooling. It has good hiding power and tinting power.
Applications
Electronics industry: Zinc oxide is a semiconductor material widely used in the manufacture of optoelectronic devices, solar cells, LED lights and transparent conductive films.
Textile Industry: Zinc oxide can be used for flame retardant treatment of textiles and can give textiles antibacterial and deodorizing properties.
Pharmaceutical industry: Zinc oxide is often used in ointments and anti-inflammatory agents. It has the effects of astringency, antibacterial and accelerated wound healing. It is often used in the treatment of skin diseases such as eczema, acne and diaper rash.
