Properties
Potassium tert-butoxide is soluble in tert-butanol and is often used in the dehydrohalogenation reaction of halogenated hydrocarbons, and its solution is relatively stable. It can be obtained by evaporating tert-butanol under reduced pressure after the reaction between tert-butanol and metal potassium. Strong alkaline condensing agent, its basicity is stronger than that of sodium methoxide and sodium ethoxide.
It is widely used in condensation, rearrangement and ring-opening reactions in organic synthesis, generally using tert-butanol solution. It is an organic alkaline corrosive product, which is highly hygroscopic. It should be sealed and stored. During storage and transportation, pay attention to fire prevention, sun protection and should be stored in a cool, ventilated and dry place.
