It is prepared by combining formalin with sodium bisulfite and then reducing it. The chemical name is sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, and the chemical formula is CH2(OH)SO2Na. It is white block or crystalline powder, odorless or slightly leek odor.

For resist printing with nigrosine and soluble vat dyes. Used as bleaching agent in food industry, soap industry, rubber synthesis and sugar, etc.
Used in the polymerization of synthetic rubber, sugar and vinyl compounds.
In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used as a whitening agent, a reducing agent, a bleaching agent, and in the production of indigo dyes and vat dyes.
